Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson was last night appointed to lead the Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
The veteran Swede was last seen as director of football at Notts County, the position which he left in February, but he still has recent international experience having been boss of Mexico until being sacked by them in April 2009.
Eriksson led England from 2001 until 2006, twice steering the team to World Cup quarter-finals, but still the fans weren’t happy as they felt the team’s potential was still unrealized under him.
Ivory Coast have Brazil, Portugal and North Korea for company in a difficult group draw for them at the World Cup.
