According to reports, Jose Mourinho is all set to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United next season.

The self-proclaimed “Special One”, currently in charge of Inter Milan, is all set to cash in on a dream return to English football and the fact that Manchester United was the job he wanted the most of all is just an icing on the cake.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who is looking to complete an unprecedented 25 seasons in charge at Old Trafford, hopes to steer United to a record number of title wins and, hopefully, a third Champions League success, before calling time on the most successful managerial career in history.

But who will Succeed?

Many names have been linked with the ‘dream’ Old Trafford job over the years after Ferguson decides to retire.

Mark Hughes, Martin O’Neill and David Moyes have been linked with the hotseat but Mourinho’s credentials outshine them all.

Mourinho has not only proven himself in England, but everywhere he has been. He has won league titles in three different countries, apart from a Champions League title with FC Porto.

Ferguson’s retirement has been a closely-guarded secret ever since he did a dramatic U-turn in 2002. And if United manage to retain the league title and win for the fourth successive season, it could prompt a historic change at Old Trafford.

Fergie Life

  • Ferguson took charge at United in November, 1986.
  • Ferguson will turn 69 on December 31.
  • Ferguson has helped United win 11 titles so far out of 18.
